I’m not a landscape painter but I do like landscape paintings. I remember my first visit to Mt. Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland. The dense, majestic rainforest is in stark contrast to the rolling-green fields of the UK landscape I had grown up with.
Just as impressive are the rainforest tracts of the Noosa hinterland which were the source for the interwoven, duo-tone fig-tree roots painted as a panel down the left-hand side.
The red flowers were, again, from the back garden and hewn stone was on my doorstep, part of the set-dressing that urban planners use to enliven the thoroughfares on which we reside.
So this canvas isn’t really a landscape but more a slightly-skewed microcosm of Queensland’s indigenous flora.
Well, that’s what it says on the label!
