Art competitions can be the catalyst that ignites the spark for a new painting.
And so it was with this one. I do paint landscapes but generally they’ll be part of the whole canvas and not just a stand alone work with trees, shrubs, skies, rocks and maybe the odd cow or goat.
So, this is my rather oblique take on a ‘Landscape Painting.’
As usual I didn’t know what to call the damn thing but have settled on Rust – Reef – Leaf – Shingle – Glow.
Landscapes are an amalgam of the organic and man-made. And I’ve got an amalgamation of five different ingredients in this one.
There’s corrugated fencing – ‘Rust,’ underwater foliage – ‘Reef,’ garden foliage – ‘Leaf,’ beach pebbles – ‘Shingle’ and city lights at night – ‘Glow.’
I stumbled upon this lot by happenstance (a seldom used word) and thought together it’s really not implausible to imagine that they could co-exist as a landscape. From hedgerow leaves to blurred city lights.
Rust – Reef – Leaf – Shingle – Glow. A bit of mouthful but if this isn’t a bloody landscape then I don’t know what is!
